Pals take on mammoth walk to fundraise for Sense

A group of friends have completed a mammoth 26-mile walk to raise funds for children and adults who are deafblind.

The group took 9 hours and 6 minutes to complete the RidgeWalk challenge, raising more than £1,000 for Sense, the national deafblind charity. Funds will go towards paying for a range of resources that are vital to improving the quality of life for children and adults with Multiple Sensory Impairments (MSI).

Starting out at midnight on the Ridgeway and finishing at Barbury Castle in Wiltshire, the walk took Sophie Claus from Shefford, Jon Gillon and Lee Rowles from Biggleswade, Nick and Ping Goodwin from Baldock and Dave Castle from Stevenage, along the oldest road in Britain through Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.

Team leader Sophie said: “Over dinner one evening we all decided to form a team and do a charity challenge to raise money and to also get fit. We were looking for ideas and one of our team suggested doing the RidgeWalk for Sense. Despite regularly training up to the event, taking on 26 miles was no mean feat but knowing that the money raised would go towards helping to support people with deafblindness kept us motivated.”
