The money will help the charity build new enclosures at its base at Larch Farm.

David Wilson Homes has donated £1,000 to an Arlesey-based animal rescue charity that helps to rehome animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and ponies.

Luna Animal Rescue, founded in October 2013, started with the aim to help rehome dogs who found themselves abandoned and without families in Bedfordshire.

The foster-based charity has since expanded, and although still mainly working in the south east of England, it has now rehomed more than 2,500 animals across the UK.

The donation comes as part of the developer’s Community Fund Scheme, in which £1,000 is donated each month to charities and organisations near to where they build. With April being National Pet Month, David Wilson Homes wanted to support a charity that helps give animals a home.

The donation will help the charity build new enclosures at its base at Larch Farm. Eventually, the charity hopes to make the farm a public resource in which families can come and visit as a day out.

Natalie Howe, Founder of Luna Animal Rescue, said: “We’re really grateful to receive this donation from David Wilson Homes. As a small charity, this is really going to make a big difference.

“As with most charities, the past year has been really difficult for us. Fundraising events that we typically do, such as Christmas shows, had to be cancelled. Alongside this, we haven’t been able to utilise our volunteers as normal, and any building we had planned at the farm had to be put on hold. So it safe to say this donation is very timely.

“The donation will help us to upgrade our enclosures at the farm, for example creating designated spaces for animals that need to be isolated.

“On behalf of all at Luna Animal Sanctuary I would like to say thank you to David Wilson Homes for supporting our charity and the local communities where they are building.”

John Dillon, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support Luna Animal Rescue and the fantastic work they are doing.

“The pandemic has been tough for many charities and organisations so it is important to us a leading homebuilder to support them. It is fantastic to know that our donation is going to help the charity create better habitats for the animals they look after.”
