World of Roses, one of the largest growers of British roses, has produced the new red rose variety to help the war veteran’s charity.

A donation from the sale of each rose will go to The Captain Tom Foundation, whose mission is to inspire hope and support causes, including combating loneliness.

Speaking before Captain Sir Tom Moore passed away, David White, World of Roses managing director, said: “It’s once in a lifetime that someone as special as Captain Sir Tom comes along. He has absolutely stolen the nation’s heart and we expect this to be one of the most successful roses we have produced.

“We hope this rose is a fitting tribute to all Captain Sir Tom has achieved throughout his lifetime and continues to achieve now with the launch of The Captain Tom Foundation.

“What a truly heroic, inspirational man he really is.”

Hannah Ingram-Moore, co-founder of The Captain Tom Foundation, said: “When we were first approached about a Captain Tom rose, we really liked the idea as my father spent a lot of time in our garden in his shed, and the funds raised will enable the foundation to continue to spread my father’s message of hope.”

The Captain Tom Foundation supports charities including the Royal British Legion, Mind, Helen & Douglas House Hospice and Willen Hospice.

For every rose sold, World of Roses will donate £2.50 to The Captain Tom Foundation. The new variety can be ordered from www.worldofroses.com
