The bus debacle regarding Engayne Avenue continues
  • Planned changes to the number 73 route in Sandy have been postponed
  • The exisiting timetable will remain in place until the end of May
  • Central Beds Council are looking into a new number 83 bus

Planned changes to the route of the number 73 bus in Sandy have been deferred until late May.

The existing timetable and route will remain in place until then.

Bus operator Stagecoach had announced plans for a new route serving Tesco, the railway station and operating closer to the Fallowfield estate to come into effect early next month, but they have now been postponed.

Central Bedfordshire Council will continue with its plans for a new 83 bus to be implemented when the 73 does change.

The proposed changes to the 73 service will see the route withdrawn from Engayne Avenue following safety concerns about buses reversing there.

Due to concerns about the bus service being lost to residents of Engayne Avenue, the council is working on a new bus numbered 83 which will provide a service especially for local residents.

This will link Tesco, the railway station, Market Place, Sunderland Road, St Neots Road, Engayne Avenue and West Road.

It is envisaged this will be operated with a smaller vehicle which would be able to serve Engayne Avenue and would provide connections with the 73.

Information about the new services, once finalised, will appear on the Central Bedfordshire Council here
