Potton Academy is rejected in the final round

A BID to open the county’s first free school has been rejected by the Department for Education (DfE).

The application to create Potton Academy in September next year reached the final interview stage before being rejected. It would have been the first free school in Central Bedfordshire.

The DfE feedback said that the Potton Academy group needs to include more detailed curriculum proposals. The applicants hope to solve this by recruiting a headteacher to help with their revised application.

Group spoksman, Naomi Marek, said: “The feedback was very positive but we need senior management that can get us through the very detailed process of the curriculum.”

Over the next few months the Potton Academy group hopes to recruit a headteacher or experienced deputy. This person would remain anonymous unless the school were to be given the final go ahead.
