Inspectors said they were impressed with the calm and purposeful environment in which children learned.

“They attend regularly and punctually, are smartly dressed, and speak confidently and articulately. They apply themselves to their work with enthusiasm and diligence,” said the report.

Teachers were praised for their belief in the school’s motto ‘every child can’.

“Teachers encourage pupils to take a pride in what they do, they are not content with work that is second best.”

New headteacher Catherine Smart was also praised.

“Pupils’ progress has accelerated rapidly, particularly within English and mathematics, since your appointment as executive headteacher in September 2015 after a period of turbulence in leadership,” said inspectors. “You and your senior leaders have a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and weaknesses.”

Toungsters now have more challenging work.

The next steps for the school have been set out to improve progress at key stage 3 for the humanities, complete appropriate extended writing tasks across the curriculum to help pupils develop their ability to communicate knowledge, understanding and ideas fully within different subject areas, and to undertake regular investigative work in science.
