Pub chain to open new branch

A spokesman for J D Wetherspoon said the company has bought The Crown pub in Biggleswade High Street.

The Chronicle first reported rumours of the move in January but the company declined to comment at the time.

Biggleswade town councillor Madeline Russell said at the time that Wetherspoon would be welcoming providing it is sympathetic to the building’s history.

But the company still needs planning and licensing permission so it cannot yet give an expected opening date.
