Reduced speed limit to save lives

New safety measures are set to be introduced on the B1042 between Sandy and Potton where a motorcyclist died in July 2014.

In June of this year, Central Bedfordshire Council ran a consultation on introducing safety measures.

The council has considered the points people made and will take the following steps:

-The speed limit on the road between Sandy and Potton will be reduced to 50mph.

-An extension of the 30mph speed limit in Sandy to the edge of the cemetery.

-A further study will be conducted to investigate what steps can be taken to make the Deepdale junction safer.

The study will focus on the sweeping bend from Potton to Deepdale and the speed of traffic using this bend.

Subject to budget, the council expects resultant works to take place by the end of the next financial year.

Councillor Adam Zerny said “I’m pleased the council has recognised the need to take action over the Deepdale junction and would like to see the study conducted as soon as possible.”
