Roof destroyed and house damaged in Lower Stondon fire

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a roof fire in Cherry Trees, Lower Stondon last Sunday.

When the first appliances arrived they found a fire in the roof of three bedroom semi-detached house, approximately 8m by 15m, well alight.

Fire engines from Stotfold and from Hitchin attended, supported by the Bedford Aerial Platform and the Operational Support Unit from Bedford.

They used six breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.

The roof of the property was completely destroyed by the fire and the first floor of the building was damaged by heat and smoke.

The roof space of an adjacent property was also damaged by heat and smoke. After the blaze was extinguished firefighters assisted in salvage operations.

The incident was closed at 7:04pm. There were no casualties and the fire was started accidentally.
