Sandy Upper School celebrated yesterday as the Department for Education published their annual performance tables.
They confirmed the school’s remarkable transformation and exceptional outcomes for all students.
The DfE tables outline the remarkable journey of the school since September 2013 with a record breaking improvement from 54 per cent to 81 per cent five or more A*-C grades (including English and Mathematics) at GCSE, representing the highest improvement in the country of 27 per cent.
The Performance Tables offer a comparison between Sandy Upper School and 55 ‘similar’ schools and, in just one year, the school has risen from being 46th out of 55 to being first.
The achievement of all students is significantly higher than the national average, demonstrating that students have received outstanding support in achieving their targets.
The Performance Tables represent the culmination of a year in which virtually every aspect of the school has been transformed under new a senior leadership team, with a clear and determined focus to create a culture of outstanding achievement for every student.
Principal Balraj Hare said: “We are absolutely delighted to be the most improved school in the country!
“Our GCSE results are truly spectacular and all our students now make outstanding progress, regardless of their starting points.
“At 81 per cent five or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics, our results are significantly above the national average of 53 per cent.
“We are, by far, the highest performing school in the county this year, and we have achieved the highest results in the history of the school, and the history of all Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough schools.
“The transformation of Sandy Upper School has been achieved in record time and my staff and students are incredibly proud of all they have achieved – they have created the ‘Most Improved School in the Country for 2014’ and they are rightly very proud!”
The Sandy Upper Sixth Form Open Evening takes place on Thursday, February 5 with doors opening at 5.30pm.
