Schools determined to beat any bullying

PUPILS were in good voice as they joined together in song to mark Anti-Bullying Week 2011.

Henlow Middle School hosted the concert on Thursday, November 17 and the older students were joined by youngsters from the nearby lower schools.

The aim was to unite the schools and foster the spirit of community as they worked together to eradicate bullying.

In preparation for the concert Henlow’s head of music, Bridget Fordham, visited Raynsford Lower in Henlow, Meppershall Lower, Langford Lower, All Saints Lower in Clifton and Derwent Lower in Henlow.

Year 5 pupils joined her to work with the Year 4s and learn songs for the concert. Each school prepared a song to perform, including You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story and Consider Yourself from Oliver.

Parents attended the concert, in which there were also performances of poems. It concluded with everyone performing Let Me Be Me, a song by Brian Beresford with a strong anti-bullying message.

Children at Shefford Lower School also took part in a ‘Blue Monday’ anti-bullying workshop.

Teachers and pupils talked about the importance of politeness and respect and youngsters made blue feet image designs on the theme.

Values and anti-bullying co-ordinator Antonia Polito said: “We don’t have a problem with bullying here but it’s an important issue to talk about all the same.”
