A service to commemorate an important wartime victory is being organised by the Stotfold and Arlesey branch of the Royal British Legion.

This year is the 70th anniversary of victory in the Far East, marking the end of conflicts in Japan and other nations in the Second World War.

VJ Day will be commemorated on Friday, August 14, at St Mary’s Church, Stotfold, in a special service where all are invited.

This will be held at 6.30pm, with the service lasting about an hour.

It will be followed by the 70th anniversary remembrance service to mark the end of the Second World War

entitled ‘We Shall Remember Them’.

This will be held at 9pm at Stotfold Cemetary war memorial, where a short service will take place.

The service will include the lighting of the cemetary beacon.

The commemoration has been arranged by the Stotfold and Arlesey Branch of the Royal British Legion, Stotfold Churches Together and Stotfold Town Council.

All are welcome to attend the services.
