Shillington club will have a ball at Wembley!

COACHES and youngsters from a Shillington football club will be taking part in a star-studded training session at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (November 20).

Jerry Reece-Jones and Dave Austin will take the AFC Shillington U11s side to Wembley to meet legends like 1966 World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst and Northern Ireland’s most capped player, Pat Jennings.

The club is one of just 12 grassroots teams who have won the opportunity to attend the inaugural McDonald’s Coaching Masterclass at the ground.

The group of legends, which will also include former Arsenal defender Martin Keown and ex Manchester United striker Andy Cole will oversee the on-pitch coaching sessions.

The club was selected after Dave’s wife Wendy heard about the opportunity and applied.

Dave said: “A very limited number of places were available for the sessions for clubs with teams with under sevens through to under 14s.

“We were competing against thousands of other sides so we were delighted when we found out that we would be able to take part.”

The youngsters are also very excited, Dave said.

He added: “Most of the under 11s have never heard of players like Sir Geoff Hurst and Pat Jennings so they have been spending quite a lot of time on Google!

“I think it will be a privilege for everyone involved with the club to attend.

“We can’t wait to take a tour around the famous stadium.”
