Sleep-out fundraising in Biggleswade

THREE hardy workers who spent the night sleeping in a bus shelter raised £400 for charity.

Helen Cooper, Dawn Kelly and Analiza Singleton from the Bedfordshire Housing Link (BHL) charity slept in the Biggleswade facility on Friday night (December 9) into Saturday morning (December 10).

The three, who are all project workers at BHL wanted to experience what life is like for homeless people who have to endure sub-zero temperatures at this time of year.

They settled down at the shelter at 8pm on the Friday and did not leave until mid morning on the Saturday.

They had only their sleeping bags and some cardboard as shelter, and took collection boxes so passers-by could make donations.

Helen, who lives in Biggleswade, said: “BHL helps to provide housing for homeless people and we wanted to see what it was like to spend a night as someone who has to sleep rough.

“We would particularly like to thank Beego’s sandwich bar for providing us with bacon rolls and tea in the morning and the pubs that let us come in with the collection boxes.”
