Social scheme is hit by vandalism

VANDALS left a community furniture bank in a sticky situation when they struck over the bank holiday weekend.

The staff at Preen Furniture bank in Biggleswade discovered that glue had been poured over many of their donated items when they arrived on Tuesday morning (May 3).

Intruders had entered the warehouse in Sun Street where the furniture is kept and rendered it unusable.

Director, Kathy Lewis, said: “We found someone had opened a fire door and gone in.

“They had been through the cleaning cupboard and opened glue and solvents.

“They emptied a five gallon container of PVA glue over a desk in the warehouse and tipped thick wood glue over the suites that were waiting to be cleaned.”

Some of the items of furniture had already been bought and were waiting to be delivered.

The intruders only stole one thing; a PAT electrical tester, which was located at the other end of the building to where the goods were damaged.

Bedfordshire Police confirmed that they had received a report of the break-in. Anyone with information can call their main office on 01234 841212.
