Sporting stars bring home bronze medals

Students from Henlow Academy at the Panathlon

The Primary Panathlon for central region schools took place in the Stoke Mandeville Stadium, the home of Paralympics, with seven teams competing on Tuesday, February 28.

Smiling proudly with their bronze medals, the team scored 45 points in the ‘Paralympic-style’ games.

Henlow C of E Academy teaching assistant and sport ability co-ordinator, Alison Day, said: “We got involved with Panathlon last year and it has been amazing.

“We now play boccia, kurling, seated volleyball and goal ball during lunch club. All the students love it.”

Student Lucas, 9, said: “I liked playing the parachute game. It was such fun.”

South Bucks School Sport Partnership manager, Rachel Hutchinson, who helped organise the games said: “Panathlon is an all-inclusive opportunity for SN students. Our motto is ‘A sporting chance for every child’.”

Panathlon offers competitive sport opportunities with adapted games, including boccia, polybat, parachute, table cricket and athletics.

The Panathlon Foundation is a charity which has been delivering competitive opportunities for young disabled people since 1999. Over 10,000 disabled young people take part every year.
