Spreading a little festive happiness

FAMILIES in need will be able to enjoy a delicious breakfast snack this Christmas thanks to a generous company’s donation.

Cereal company Jordans, which is based in Biggleswade, has given 200 of its multi-grain cereal bars to aid the Biggleswade Chronicle’s Need Appeal.

The purpose of the appeal, which is now into its 29th year, is to collect food for families across Chronicle Country who would be otherwise left with nothing over the festive period.

This year the appeal teamed up with The Need Project, which is based at Kings Baptist Church in Stotfold and helps the needy all year round.

Donations from kind-hearted readers have been flooding in and tomorrow (Saturday, December 17) 82 hampers will be packed. Each one will go to a home in Chronicle Country to give a little festive cheer this Christmas.

Each hamper will contain food, toys if appropriate and a Christmas card from the Biggleswade Chronicle readers and The Need Project.

Scouts from Sandy and children from the Sandy Young People’s Youth Club will be packing the gifts.

Project co-ordinator, Ken Lynch, said: “It’s worked very well and the stuff has rolled in. It’s absolutely amazing because people have really responded this year.

“I’ve had some phone calls from people in need and I’ve told them to contact The Need Project.”

Everything that has been donated to date will go into the 82 hampers tomorrow and these will go to needy families who have been referred by their social worker or health visitor.

The hampers will be delivered discreetly and names will remain anonymous.

But if you still have food to donate it will not go to waste. Any food that comes in after today (Friday) will be made into emergency hampers as there are always families in need of a last minute hamper.

You can still take food to the Chronicle offices until Thursday (December 22) and to Ken Lynch at 4 Pyms Way in Sandy until Christmas Eve.

Any spare food will go to The Need Project and homeless charities.
