A former West End actor has brought her talents to Biggleswade by launching a children’s dance academy.

Lauren Shepherd, 38, has been an understudy for Lesley Joseph in Thoroughly Modern Milly and performed with Brian May in the musical We Will Rock You in 2008.

Now she has launched her own branch of babyballet, a dance academy for children aged between six months and six years, with classes taking place at the Courtyard Centre.

Originally from Barry Island in Wales, Ms Shepherd has been dancing since the age of three, but an injury ended her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina.

She said: “I feel as if my life has gone full circle and I’m back where I started at ballet classes – only this time I’m the teacher. I decided to start my own babyballet classes because I wanted to share my love of dance with others. There is nothing like this in the area and the brand really is amazing. Classes are great fun but also inspire confidence and teach youngsters about self awareness.”

Her husband, Craig Armstrong, is also a dancer and is assistant to the resident director of Billy Elliot The Musical. They have a son, Alfie, who is one year old. For more about babyballet, call 07719 713077, email biggleswade@baby
