Superstore and 220-space car park outlined for Biggleswade centre

Plans for a new 220-space multi-storey car park and superstore for Biggleswade have been unveiled.

Martin Thomas, chairman of the Biggleswade Chamber of Trade presented the proposals for Bonds Lane at a meeting of Biggleswade Town Council’s off-street car parking committee on Tuesday (June 4).

Mr Thomas and a delegation from the chamber have been in discussions with a Bonds Lane landowner, who is considering the project for the land behind and adjacent to the former Il Carafino restaurant, now the Croft Kitchen.

Committee chairman Madeline Russell suspended standing orders at Tuesday’s meeting so Mr Thomas could talk about the plans.

Although the proposals are at an early stage, if approved they could see three levels of parking becoming available for shoppers, who would enter and exit the facility from Bonds Lane.

Mr Thomas also confirmed that there are ‘interested parties’ in taking over the possible new ground floor store, which would measure more than 14,000 square feet.

If approved the development could be complete in two to three years. Turn to page 7.
