Twelve-year-old Evan Rees-Humphreys was first diagnosed with liver cancer on Christmas Eve in 2010.

He underwent six courses of aggressive chemotherapy eventually underwent nine hours of surgery to resect his liver, leaving him with the minimum liver for survival.

However, after fours years of being in remission, the cancer has returned in Evan’s lungs.

Again Evan has to face another gruelling round of aggressive chemotherapy and possible radiotherapy to try and beat the disease for the second time.

In order to help Evan on his fundraising quest the Gamlingay network scout group will be holding a 48-hour sponsored barbecue this weekend.

The event starts today at 5pm and will finish on Sunday at 5pm at the Potton scout hut.

Scout Group Co-ordinator Barry Jefferd said: “Evan is a very brave child and instead of sitting back has set himself a target of raising funds to help support Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

“Evan has wherever possible tried to be an active member of the Gamlingay & Gransden Scout Group. Initially as a cub and now as a scout he is always keen to participate.

“Last month he was due to attend a scout camp but at the last minute he had to pull out due to illness.”

The barbecue is just one event for Evan’s cause as last weekend at Gamlingay First School, one of his teachers, some of his friends and his mum all had their heads shaved to raise money.

As well as fighting the disease Evan writes a blog to keep friends and family up-to-date and involved in his life. You can view the blog at www.evanmrmiggins.simplesite.com

So far Evan has managed to raise over £3,600 for hospital improvements.
