The new digital format at Talking Newspaper leads to increase in listeners

Biggleswade’s Talking Newspaper is not only on a good financial footing, but its listenership is growing.

Outgoing chairman Nick Gurney told members and volunteers at the November AGM that the number of blind and visually impaired listeners receiving the weekly memory stick of local news has increased since the change to a digital format 30 months ago.

Nick, who will remain on the committee, said: “The role of chairman will now be in the capable hands of Tony Sharp, who has been our technician for the past three years.”

He offered Tony and the team his best wishes for the future and thanked everyone for their support during his eight years in the chair.

In January the Talking Newspaper will have served the area for 35 years. Its motto is ‘Local news for local listeners by local volunteers supported and funded by local organisations.’

Contact number for new listeners is 07840 504940.
