The flour bombs were thrown once again as brave sailors took to the River Ivel for the Langford Raft Race.

Ten rafts started and 10 rafts managed to finish too as spectactors joined the popular event on Saturday, July 2, before the village fete opened.

The theme for this year was ‘Sci-Fi’, and the photos reveal what fabulous rafts were created.

First past the post were Apollo 14 NASA, 2nd were Flash Gordon, 3rd Rafty McRaftface. Best raft was the Thunderbird 2 (plough), best fancy dress Planet of the Apes and the wooden spoon was awarded to Starship Enterprise teleporter.

Best arrangers were Paul ‘Smiffy’ Smith and Mel Stratton, best river cleaner upper was Kevin Blackett.

The total now raised is £850 and all money raised from the race, including the purchase of flour bombs on the day, goes to help the children’s organisations within the village and surrounding areas. Prizegiving was held at The Plough in Langford in the evening.

Donations from proceeds will be: £250 for Girl Guiding, £250 for Bushido Judo, £250 for Langford Youth Cricket and £100 to the Scouts, who were thanked for helping with a litter pick.
