An appeal has been issued for farmers to volunteer to respond in emergencies.

Central Bedfordshire Council is appealing for farmers who may be able to help out in the event of issues such as flooding.

Mark Conway, who heads up the council’s Emergency Planning Team, said: “If an emergency happens then it is important to get people on the ground that can assist. But if they are unable to get there in the first place then that can cause real problems.

“That’s why we are appealing for farmers to volunteer their services in the event of an emergency.”
