A choir formed in Potton more than 40 years ago is appealing for new members.
St Mary’s Singers is a mixed choir with about 60 members and was started in 1969 by a group of people from St Mary’s who did not want their singing to be confined to church music.
Jo Dix-Pincott, choir publicity officer, said: “From this beginning, we have grown into a happy and versatile group. We sing a wide and eclectic mix of music, even stage some shows. We rehearse every Wednesday evening during term time in St Mary’s Church Hall, Potton, 7.45pm until 9.45pm under the direction of musical director David Beer and accompanist Anne Wright.
“We would like as many people as possible to sing with us and come to our concerts. New members are always welcome - especially men.
“So if you have a passion for singing and can hold a tune, we would love to see you - there isn’t even an audition.”
The Spring Concert will be a performance of the superb Requiem written by John Rutter and another of his works, Feel the Spirit. Rehearsals for these works started this week with the concert scheduled for May 7 in St Mary’s Church, Potton.
The singers are holding a Bring and Sing concert where they will be singing the beautiful Mozart Requiem on July 9, once again in St Mary’s Church.
Jo added: “Singing is a fantastic way to meet new friends and to give you that ‘feel good factor’, it’s also great exercise, so come along one Wednesday evening to give us a try?”
