Working hard for an Eco-hub

CONSTRUCTION of a village’s new community building should soon be back on track.

Work on the Gamlingay Eco-hub stopped last month after the main contractors, Deejak, went into administration.

But Gamlingay Parish Council is working to resolve the situation, councillors said at a meeting on Tuesday (May 10).

Ian Horton, from the NTN Partnership, the quantity surveyors for the project, said: “We were aware a few days before that Deejak might go into administration.

“The council decided to secure the site. Deejak went on the Monday and security was there then – nothing has been taken away.

“We have sent out to five bona fide contractors that have expressed an interest. The idea is that they finish the work for about the same sum put forward by Deejak.”

The proposals from potential new contractors will be discussed in early June and construction is expected to be resumed in July.
