Biggleswade victorious at the double

Biggleswade's Herts team return to action in 2016 began with an impressive 4-1 victory at home to Letchworth last Wednesday.

Twins Jay and Owen Ledger stepped up to numbers one and two playing Neil Morgan and Phil Jenkins. In a tight first game Jay lost 18-16 before winning the next three 15-8, 15-11, and 15-12.

Owen got off to a strong start taking the first two games 15-11 and 15-8 before Phil Jenkins fought back to take a close third game 17-15. In the fourth Owen closed his match out 15-9.

Dan Easton at string three and Simon Gray at string four both had comfortable 3-0 victories over Alan Cook and Jon Miles respectively; Dan winning 15-12, 15-6, 15-9 and Simon 15-10, 15-7, 15-4.

The only joy for Letchworth came at string five with the home side’s Paul Hunt going down 3-0 to Greg Millhouse (15-12, 15-12, 15-7).

Overall result: Biggleswade 4 (17) Letchworth 1 (5)

Biggleswade’s Beds League side were also able to emerge victorious against Flitwick on Monday.

With Martin Wright at string five receiving a walkover as Flitwick could only muster four in their team Nathan Bascom at string four kicked off the action against Ryan Osbourne. Nathan struggled to cope with the power of the hard hitting Ryan and went down 3-0 (15-13, 15-11, 15-12) levelling the match up at 1-1.

Marcus Gray at number two continued his excellent recent form with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Steve Mullens (15-10, 15-6, 15-5).

Dan Easton at string one got off to a winning a start against Gary Milner 15-13. In a gruelling battle Gary then prevailed in the next three 15-12, 15-11, 15-11 to win 3-1 leaving the match level at 2-2.

Last up was Rich Anthony at string three against Simon Bloomfield. Rich looked comfortable in the first game taking it 15-10 before Simon came back in the second to win 11-15 leaving the whole match in the balance.

Rich stepped up to the plate for Biggleswade to take the next two games 15-11 and 15-10 to seal their first victory in five matches.

Overall result: Biggleswade 3 (15) Flitwick 2 (7).
