Biggy edged out in rugby cup final

Biggleswade Rugby Club were 17-0 up within the opening 15 minutes of Saturday’s Bedfordshire County Cup Final - but a late score sealed a third successive trophy win for visitors Stockwood Park

More than 400 spectators lined the touchlines at a sun-drenched Langford Road to watch Biggy go ahead from a Dom Nott try.

George Matthew added the conversion before racing away himself to add a converted second for 14-0.

Matthew then just missed a penalty kick before making it 17-0 with a successful one before Stockwood, who play two divisions higher in the league structure, pulled it back to 17-5 with an unconcerted try.

Biggy, who last won the cup in 1991, started the new half well on top but they were denied a third score and when Stockwood hit back to take the scores to 17-15, they also missed a simple penalty before adding another unconverted try. Then in the dying minutes they sealed the win at 23-17 with a neat drop goal.
