Bad day at the office for Waresley at Histon

‘A bad day at the office’ was the only way to describe Waresley’s home defeat to Histon on Saturday in the Cambs & Hunts Tucker Gardner Division One.

Fielding first, Waresley proceeded to drop eight catches in allowing Histon to score 259 runs for only 2 wickets. Histon topscorer was James Mynott (102*), and he was well supported by Michael Wright (73) and Tom Cosford (67*).

All the bowlers were punished for lack of control.

For a while when Ian Donald (60) and Zac Ringrose (49) put on 96 runs at a run a ball, it appeared Waresley had a faint chance of winning. But once both these batters were dismissed in quick succession, the rest of the innings subsided to 162 all out.

The next two matches are against the top two sides in the league, and Waresley are still not safe from relegation.

Bonus points even when not winning are crucial to prevent them from getting sucked into a dogfight at the foot of the table.

In Division Two Blunham lost to Weston Colville by five wickets.
