Gauge bowls triple wicket maiden to help Biggleswade to win

Biggleswade Town wouldn't be denied victory in a rain-affected Hunts League Division Three game against Ramsey III on Saturday.

Chris Waghorn won the toss and invited Ramsey to bat. The score reached 90 in the 19th over when Harding was adjudged lbw to Waghorn.

Ball removed Kingston (lbw) and Parkins (caught by Keen) before Manchett top edged Gauge to Lawrence.

Buddle was finally removed for 80 being stumped by Keen off Max Smith which took Ramsey to 188-5 in the 41st over.

Over 42 was bowled by Gauge and he removed Saunders (mistimed drive to Lawrence), Anderson (to edge to Waghorn) and O’Donaghue (bowled) in a triple wicket maiden.

Waghorn ran out Bowd backing up and Ramsey had lost five wickets in 18 balls as the innings closed on 196-9.

Conor Smith and Dagless opened the innings and both batsman settled and began to add runs. Ramsey shuffled their bowling pack but to no avail.

Drizzle led to a damp outfield and made bowling increasingly difficult. Dagless reached his 50 shortly before the 100 partnership was reached. Smith reached his 50 in the 26th over.

After the completion of the 27th over the rain had become too heavy to continue with the score on 130 for no wicket, seven runs in front of the target based on run-rate. No further play was possible and the match was complete.

In Division One Southill Park Ben Slater scored 82, Ben Wallis an unbeaten 64 and Lee Hoggett 50 in a 249-3 total at Eaton Socon.

Wickets proved hard to come by when the home side batted too, but they weren’t able to score quickly enough and fell 56 runs short of Southill’s total at the close.

Ickwell II’s Division Four game against Warboys III was shortened to 35 overs as they had not been informed of a change of venue and were delayed in arriving.

Ickwell won the toss and put Warboys into bat. Sam Barrow (4-28) picked up two early wickets and Tom Beaty also got amongst the wickets in a very economical spell of 3-22 from nine overs.

For the home side most of the runs came from Daniel Hyde (55) and Jack Pearson (62). Warboys were all out for 177. Ickwell II managed to get these for the loss of four wickets with an over to spare. Tom Winetroube (59) continues to show a lot of promise and the main support came from Chris Rix (49 not out).
