Ties revealed for summer's East Beds competitions

The Heritage Cup first round on Monday, May 8 sees Caldecote play Ampthill Town and Potton Town host Langford.

The second round draw, on Monday, June 5, is Caldecote/Ampthill v Southill Park; Ickwell v Potton/ Langford; Blunham v Flitwick; Wareseley v Biggleswade Town. The final is at Potton on July 7.

Nine teams compete in the East Beds Shield with one first round tie, Biggleswade Town v Sandy.

The second round draw is Biggleswade/Sandy v Southill; Caldecote v Ickwell; Langford v Potton Town; Blunham v Waresley with games to be played by June 9.

In the Under 18s competition Southill play Flitwick and Ickwell host Ampthill in the first round, with Blunham and Biggleswade Town receiving byes to the next round.

The Butcher Shield between last year’s Heritage Cup winners Flitwick and East Beds Shield winners Blunham will take place at Ickwell on Wednesday, June 6.

The draw was made at the East Beds Shield AGM at Ickwell last Monday.

Chairman John Gurney reported that the Annual Bowls Match had raised over £2,000 with this year’s event scheduled for Wednesday, August 9 at Flitwick.

The second golf day raised £1,300 and the Maudlin family were thanked for their support. This year’s Golf Day will be on Friday, April 21 and there are vacancies for four teams of four.

Secretary/Treasurer, Nigel Westhorp said donations of £6,200 had been made.

As well as money donated to local charities and organisations £200 was donated to The Brain Tumour Trust in memory of John Kettleborough.

He gave thanks to clubs who had made their grounds available for finals, Competitions Secretary Helen Papworth, Umpires Secretary Peter Gurney and all umpires who had given their services voluntarily.
