Attention turns to the County Cup

The centre of attention for the majority of the Premier Division clubs this weekend revolves around action in the opening round of The Bedfordshire FA Senior Trophy. Of the five ties, two are all Bedfordshire County Football League affairs. At Miller Road, Bedford Hatters will be hosting a AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College side they have already drawn with in league action this season to suggest this tie could go either way.Whilst Harvey Close is the venue for the tie between hosts Caldecote and Flitwick Town, where you would expect the home side to prevail.

For Dunton, it is home Carlsberg Stadium action against high flying Molten Spartan South Midlands League outfit Ampthill Town.Whilst Oakley Sports will hit the road full of confidence when they journey to Manor Road for a meeting with Caddington.

The final tie also sees Wilshamstead hitting the road for the short journey to Weston Park to take on United Counties Football League opposition in the shape of Wootton Blue Cross.

Away from the cup action there are just three Premier Division supported by Sportsform encounters to savour .At Moggerhanger Playing Fields, Blunham will be hosting Arlesey Town Reserves in a game that could go either way, but over at Lodge Road, you would expect hosts Sharnbrook to collect the full three points when The Safari Boys from Woburn pay them a visit. Plus at Rectory Road, hosts Shefford Town & Campton will start firm favourites to collect the points from the visiting Renhold United.

In Division One, the pick of the seven game programme may either come at Bedford Road Recreation Ground where Sandy host Ickwell & Old Warden in local derby action or at Marston Playing Fields, the venue for Marston Shelton Rovers home clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Lea Sports PSG.

Meantime, just down the road at Hurst Grove, league leaders Lidlington United Sports receive a visit from Caldecote Reserves in a game that should see them collect all three points. Whilst at Hillgrounds, points for their position at the other end of the league standings are on offer for hosts AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves and fellow strugglers Kings AFC.

Over at Cople Playing Fields, Bedford Sports Athletic take on Henlow for the second time in seven games having beaten them 5-1 at Groveside in the first encounter, whilst Meltis Albion hit the road for Chaul End Lane to be hosted by Luton Boys.

The seventh and final game in this Division takes place in Mowsbury Park between hosts FC Meppershall and the visiting Westoning.

With AFC Turvey having taken full advantage of their main rivals Elstow Abbey and Pavenham being on cup duty last weekend to go to the top of the Division Two league table, this weekend they will be looking for another three points when they host Queens Park Crescents at Stonefields.Whilst The Abbey will be expected to do likewise when they entertain Shefford Town & Campton Reserves at The Warren and Pavenham gain the maximum haul of points from their visit to Everton Playing Fields for their meeting with Great Barford.

Fourth place Sundon Park Rangers also remain unbeaten this season, for them it is a short trip on the road to Luton Regional Sports Centre to face Stopsley Park.

Elsewhere, Co-op Sports will be hoping to keep in touch with the pace setters above them in standings when they travel to face M & DH Oakley at their Playing Field Headquarters.With other action coming at Bromham Playing Fields, the venue where Bromham United will host the travelling Clifton who journey in search of their first league win of the season and at Groveside, where likewise Marabese Ceramics search out their opening league win of the campaign against visitors Potton United Reserves.

In Division Three there is home action for the league leaders Renhold Village, but things will not be easy for them as the visitors to their Renhold Playing Field headquarters are fellow title contenders Eastcotts AFC. Whilst the second stand-out game on paper in this division looks to be the Leagrave Park clash between hosts Sundon Park Rangers Colts and the travelling still unbeaten for the season Riseley Sports.Whilst Mowsbury Park is the venue for the meeting between fifth place hosts Goldington and sixth place Cranfield United Reserves.

Down at the other end of the table, basement club Royal Oak Kempston make their way to Horseshoes Close to face Dunton A and Flitwick Town Reserves face a tough home encounter at Steppingley Road against unbeaten in the league this season Stevington.

Other action coming at Sunderland Road Playing Field where Potton Town will be expected to collect the full three points from their visitors Wilshamstead Reserves and at Greenfield Road, the venue for Westoning Reserves home clash with Kempston Hammers Sports.

In Division Four, league leaders Marsh Leys will be in home Cutler Hammer action against Stewartby Village where it will be a major surprise if their 100% record is broken despite The Village currently holding down the fourth spot in the league standings.

Elsewhere, for second place Bedford Park Rangers,it is a trip across town to The Bedford Hockey Centre to take on Bedford Panthers.Whilst third place Kempston Athletic make their way to Harvey Close for a meeting with Caldecote A.

Down at the other end of the table, Sandy Reserves make the short journey to The Green looking for their first league point/points of the campaign against hosts Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves.A comment that also applies to Goldington Hammers who go into Mowsbury Park home action against Dunton A.

The day’s other action coming at Digswell Playing Fields, the venue where Shefford Town & Campton A entertain still unbeaten in the league Thurleigh and at Whiston Crescent, where hosts Clifton Reserves strive to retain their unbeaten start to the season against Wootton Village.
