Balague: Increased support key to United's success

Fans and players alike will do well to make the most of this weekend's home match against Sun Sports because we're probably going to need a sat nav to find our way back to Second Meadow when Stofold call in on March 26.

Before then we face no fewer than five away trips on the bounce – games that will go a long way to defining our season.

If we win those – and I see no reason at all why we shouldn’t – then this will almost certainly go down as the most successful league seasons in the club’s history.

With 12 wins, two draws and just one defeat in our last 15 games we now sit in eighth place.

I cannot believe how far we have come in such a short time, both on and off the field.

Key to our success has been the increased support showed by the people of the town.

This season we can boast the highest attendance of the season throughout the entire league (303 for our match against Dunstable) and a 72% increase in the numbers attending matches.

We are also currently the third best supported club in the league behind Hertford and Hoddesdon Town with an average attendance of 117.

And on the social networks the Biggleswade United message is ringing out loud and clear. Much of the thanks for all of this should go to our pro-active business team who are constantly banging the drum to get more support for the club.

Our high profile collaboration with Nordeus, the creator of Top Eleven, the internet’s leading management football game has really grabbed the attention of everyone. Last year we had 1300 followers on Twitter; today we have in the region of 40,000, more than every league two side apart from Portsmouth.

We can also boast kit sponsorship from adidas and have the back of our shirts sponsored by the Barcelona law firm AvaLaw.

We have been the subject of a number of Youtube documentaries including Copa 90, Football Republic and Away days and now also boast our own extremely pro-active Youtube channel with unique coverage every week.

This is only the beginning and we need more help and support from the whole community to continue our progress. Why not start with our match against Sun Sports tomorrow. See you there.
