Biggleswade FC smash seven to stay clear at the top

FC remain top of the table, eight points clear of second placed Harpenden.

However they will keep a nervous eye on Baldock who sit third, nine points behind– but with four games in hand.

After Saturday’s draw (report inside) Biggleswade startted on the front foot against a young Hadley side and inside the opening minutes Alex Marsh saw his fierce drive turned away.

With both Biggleswade full backs enjoying getting forward it was Adam Hunt who produced a great cross that begged for Tom Cookman to get the touch that would have put his side in front.

It was not to be but Cookman was not to be denied and on 10 minutes he and Marsh played a clever one two with Tom finishing from the edge of the box.

With FC dominating, the second arrived on 18 minutes as Isaac Maynard cleverly picked Lee Northfield’s run with Lee finishing in the far corner.

Northfield could have had a second minutes later as he failed to get his head to a great cross from Owen Dixon.

On the half hour FC were punished for overplaying as Hadley reduced the arrears with a good run and finish.

The opening minutes of the second half saw Hadley almost produce the equaliser as a whipped shot just cleared the far post.

With the chance getting away FC quickly put the game out of reach with two goals in as many minutes. First Owen Dixon produced a great swinging cross for Nathan George to side foot home. followed by Marsh with a cool finish as he picked his spot from the edge of the box.

Northfield shot over from close range when well positioned and George Riley saw his free kick just go the wrong side of the upright.

Biggleswade had Sam Wyer to thank as he made a good save to keep Hadley to one goal, Josh Holmes also making a good last ditch tackle to deny a goal scoring opportunity.

With Rhys Thorpe Ian Rees and Mark Franklin introduced it was Franks who produced a great ball to Northfieldand he pulled the ball back for Rhys Thorpe to side foot home.

Minutes later Thorpe grabbed his second, this time Marsh the provider. Thorpe almost got his hat trick with a bicycle kick that crashed against the post.

A Mark Franklin corner was headed home by Marsh for his second and Biggleswade’s seventh.

This Saturday FC have another tough looking league game as they travel to Ware to play Wodson Park.
