Dan the man is off to West Ham

A teenager from Biggleswade is on track to fulfil his dreams after being offered a two-year scholarship at Premier League side West Ham United.

Goalkeeper Danny Boness impressed for the Hammers’ U16 side at the end of last season and has put pen to paper on an exciting deal with the east London giants.

Danny started as a goalkeeper at Ipswich Town at u9 level, spending five years at the Portman Road club before leaving due to the amount of travelling this involved.

He then played at Luton Town, before spending a season with Cambridge United.

It was there that Danny attracted the interest of Colchester United, who he joined for six weeks before heading to West Ham at the end of the 2013/14 season.

He trained with the Hammers and played the last four u16 games of the campaign, with the final one against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

And he clearly impressed the West Ham management team; signing on the dotted line for the Hammers the following week after they agreed a financial agreement with Ipswich Town who had compensation rights.

Danny will start pre-season training on July 1 before flying out to Malta and Belgium as part of his training schedule.

Danny’s dad Andy Boness said: “Danny would like to thank all of his family, as well as Sean Grffiths his goalkeeping coach who he has worked with for two years; Ian Morris at M-Sport for goalkeeper gloves and Dave Northfield for the last few years’ of support.”
