Gazumped Dunstable Town have admitted they have missed out on the signature of Arlesey Town defender Shane Blackett.

The Calor Southern League Division One Central new boys had prematurely announced the capture of the fomer Luton Town centre-half, only to discover he has opted to stay on as captain at the aRMadillo Stadium.

Blues director of football John McLoughlin said: “Shane got an offer from Arlesey Town that he could not refuse and has decided to stay there despite that we had agreed terms and had arranged to meet and sign.”

Arlesey boss Zema Abbey said: “We were disappointed to see other managers representing that they’ve signed someone when they haven’t.”

There was better news on the sponsorship front for Town though, as McLoughlin added: “DTFC are pleased to announce that Autotech Controls have agreed to continue with the first team main sponsorship as we strive forward into the Southern League.”
