Ben L’Honore smashed a hat-trick as Stotfold thrashed Newmarket Town 5-0 in the FA Vase First Round on Tuesday night.

The game was replayed in midweek after Saturday’s original tie was abandoned after 45 minutes as Stotfold were leading 2-1.

Newmarket’s Toby Bicknell suffered a serious injury at the end of the first half and was taken by ambulance to Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The visitors later confirmed he had thankfully not suffered any broken bones.

When the teams met again on Tuesday L’Honore opened the scoring on 23 minutes and Louis Taylor doubled the advantage ten minutes later.

Two goals in three minutes just before the hour from L’Honore and Drew Cardines put Stotfold firmly in the box seat. And L’Honore grabbed his hat-trick to give Stotfold a resounding win.

They now host fellow SSML side AFC Dunstable – currently unbeaten and top of the table – in an all-Bedfordshire clash in the second round on November 21.

On Saturday Stotfold visit Broxbourne in the SSML Premier before welcoming Potton United in the North Beds Charity Cup on Tuesday.
