Guillem Balague: Expectation shows our progress

It's a measure of how far we have come here at Biggleswade United when I say that a draw at Hertford last weekend feels more like two points lost than it does a point won.

Earlier on in the season we would have been delighted to come away from there with a share of the spoils, but certainly not now.

This was a match that should have been done and dusted by the interval. We ran the Hertford defence ragged in the first half, especially down the flanks, but went in at the break just one goal to the good and with a host of missed chances to look back on.

It was a different Hertford side that came out for the second half and in the finish our inability to put them to the sword early on cost us.

Once they had equalised, overall, our hosts enjoyed the better of the second period although we still had chances to retake the lead. Defeat would have been unjust, but stranger things have happened, and had we lost, it would have been nobody’s fault but our own.

It was exactly the same as happened against Tring Athletic a week earlier, only this time at least we ended up with something to show for our efforts.

Coach, Cristian Colas, summed it up perfectly when speaking to Biggleswade United TV on our youtube site when he said the players needed to focus much more on their accuracy and attitude when they find themselves in a finishing situation.

I know it is something we will address on the training ground and on the plus side, it would be a much more worrying situation if we weren’t creating the chances that we are. We are not looking to reinforce as the first option, but it is something we cannot forget as a possibility. Hopefully what we have is good enough to stop us looking somewhere else. I believe we are.

This Saturday we travel to Hadley who certainly didn’t share our shyness in front of goal in their last outing, when they travelled to FC Broxbourne Borough and proceeded to to hit them for six.

They are a side that know where the goal is and managed to beat us 4-1 in the corresponding league fixture in September. But that was then, and this time around I’m sure things will be much closer. See you there.
