Langford come from behind to win at Broadfields

Langford returned to winning ways with a 3-1 success on the road at Broadfields on Tuesday.

The home side kicked off and had the early pressure. The game was being played at a frantic pace with both teams using the long ball to try to get behind the other’s defence.

Langford soon started to work moves of their own, and Stephen Brooks shot across the home keeper but it went just wide of the post.

On 14 minutes a long clearance found Billy Smith who spotted Nick Gardner off his line, and Smith’s chip gave Broadfields a slightly fortuitous lead.

The hosts then had a spell of sustained possession but could find no way through the Reds defence.

On the half hour Broadfields lost Rex Kimona to injury and seemed to lose their attacking rhythm.

The Reds took advantage. Daly was bought down just outside the corner of the area, Dale Turney’s initial shot hit the wall, then he lashed in the rebound off a post to pull Langford level.

From the start of the second half Langford upped their work rate, and Broadfields had little to offer in return.

The visitors made a number of good chances without scoring, but then on the hour Dale Turney’s quick free kick found Dylan Gittens on the right corner of the penalty box and he made no mistake with a decisive finish to put Langford into the lead.

The play switched from end to end but neither team could find a finish.

However Langford took control and were further rewarded when Tom Bryant player the ball to Stephen Brooks who carried the ball forward before crossing to the ever dangerous Pat Daly, who drilled the ball home from 20 yards to seal a good win for Langford.
