Langford fell to the only goal at home to high-flying Baldock Town in the SSML Division One on Saturday.
Baldock showed their intent from the kick-off and had all the early possession, putting Langford under pressure.
Anthony James was the first to benefit by getting his head on the end of a cross which was tipped over the bar by Adam Lawrence in the Langford goal. The resulting corner ended up in the hands of the Reds keeper.
The hosts gradually settled and had some good possession of their own without creating a goal scoring chance.
Then following a period of end to end football, and on 42 minutes Langford conceded a free-kick just outside their penalty area out on the left wing. Up stepped Luke Gregson and curled the ball into the far top corner to put Baldock in front.
Langford started the second half pushing forward but not getting a shot of any kind at the visitors’ goal.
A long mazy run by David Tembua, who cut in and shot fiercely against a defender, resulted in a Langford corner. The corner kick fell in the six yard box and was somehow scrambled off their goal line by the Baldock defence, the resulting second corner was headed clear.
Again Baldock attacked and following a late corner Owen Robertson had his shot on the turn saved. Town continued to have the better possession, but neither team looked like scoring.
Langford’s next match is away to Crawley Green (at Barton Rovers ground) on Monday, December 28 at 3pm. The Reserves’ next match is at home to St Margaretsbury Reserves on January 9.
