Late goals sink Sandy Ladies

Sandy Ladies put in a battling performance and deserved a point on Sunday but lost 3-1 at home to Garston.

Once again Sandy were struggling for numbers and an injured outfield player had to play in goal so they had 11 on pitch at all times. Despite three other players taking part with injuries or whilst being ill, Sandy put up a tremendous performance battling to the end.

Sandy started strongly with Amber and Katie causing Garston defence problems supported by Chloe and Sophie in midfield and Faye and Loren of the wings.

Jade was again strong in defence supported by Jenny in goal, Amie, Lucy, Karen and Claire, who came on for Karen, after 30 minutes. Garston came back at Sandy after being under the cosh for the first 10 minutes or so and opened the scoring on 13 minutes with a quick break.

Just six minutes later Jade made a great run and then made a superb pass to put Katie clean through and she tucked the ball away with great coolness and level the score.

It was another end to end game against a strong, physical team but eventually the injuries and illness told and Sandy conceded two goals further on 79 and 84 minutes.

Amie and Jenny shared the Player of the Match for swopping places to help the team and working really hard in their ‘new’ positions.

Sandy are looking for new players to strengthen a squad depleted by injuries and illness so if you are 16 years old or over and interested in playing ladies football please contact the secretary, Alan Watson, on 07749 199189.

Sandy’s next match is away to Letchworth Garden City Eagles on Sunday with a 2pm kick off.

Sandy: Jenny Holt, Amie Fage, Jade Anderson, Lucy Saunders, Karen Varley (Claire Ashwell), Loren Ellard, Chloe Reeves, Sophie Webb, Faye Prout, Amber Williams & Katie Seldon.
