Lawson Park sink while Mexicans are back on track

Bedford Sunday League Round-up

OAKLEY maintained their good run at the top of the Premier Division after beating Lawson Park Rangers 4-0, plunging the Rangers to third from bottom while Meltis Mexicans got back to winning ways with an unconvincing 3-2 victory away to Haynes.

Meltis scored first from the penalty spot through Darek Joswiak but with only ten minutes left in the game Meltis found themselves 2-1 down. Scott Alleyne started the recovery when he burst down the right and put in a low cross which Callum Davenport slid into the net. With time almost up Mark Hall popped another goal in from only a few feet to complete a lucky victory for the Mexicans.

Atletico Europa, still a game behind the top two, kept up the pace with a 5-2 away win at bottom club Esquires. London Road Supreme squeezed a valuable two points off Queensmen with a closely fought 1-0 result at Jubilee Park.

Sharnbrook Casuals are making the pace hot at the top of First Division. It is five wins out of five now and their lead three points after giving Kempston Hammers a 4-0 roasting. It was a comfortable morning for the Casuals who were not at full strength, but a Jack Hoogstraten hat-trick and a goal from Darren Wallinger was more than enough to secure both points.

Dunton Sunday are picking up points in second place, this week with a fine 3-2 win at Newtown Rangers. Old Hastingsburians are third after beating bottom club Stewartby 4-1 and 21st GNG Tigers got both points from their game away at Harrold & Carlton.

It looks tight at the top of the Second Division with Renhold leading the way with eight points after collecting two of them from Bumble Bee Flitwick where they enjoyed a 5-2 final score.

Shaun Cafferty was man of the match for Renhold with two goals, with two players scoring their first goals for the club. Jason Thompson netted from twenty-five yards and substitute Craig Brown got his maiden goal. Scott Mann was Renhold’s other scorer.

Mowsbury Athletic are in second and yet to be beaten, dispensing with Houghton Conquest 3-0. There was no score in the first half although Athletic had two good chances to score early on. Andy Klein stepped up after the break and scored twice with man of the match Rhys Allen scoring a penalty in the last minute.

Caldecote Reserves top-scored in this division with seven at toothless Sharks, who are rock bottom without a point to their name.

Bedford Panthers remain unbeaten at the top of Third Division after walloping Bedford Allsters 7-2 away from home. Mile Road Casuals are hanging in there a point behind and with a 2-0 away win at Dunton Reserves.

M&DH Clapham dropped a point at home to Flitwick Eagles who shared four goals. Grafton Celtics did well to travel to Gardeners Arms Biggleswade and come away with a 2-0 win, and Meltis Rangers scored their first win of the season when they travelled to Wells Stars winning that one 2-1.

There’s no stopping Santaniello’s at the top of Fourth Division. They journeyed to Bird in Hand Lower Stondon and came back with a 6-1 win. Rose Biggleswade in second place also got an armful of goals, 10-1 against BMC.

Goldington Rangers dropped back to third after a surprising 1-1 draw at home to Bedford Albion, whilst Bedford Cupids maintained their challenge with a fine 4-0 away win at Oakley Reserves.

The midtable tussle between Shillington Pirates and Fox & Hounds Clapham went the way of the home team, the Pirates winning it 4-1.

Westoning Gijon are still forcing the pace at the top of the Fifth Division, beating Sandy Titans 4-1, but they cannot afford to slip up as Bedford Old Boys are only two points behind after their 3-2 away win at Oakley Wanderers.

The Boys went one up only for Dan Cotton to equalise for the Wanderers, but they turned round 2-1 to Bedford OB. Steve Yessian equalised for Oakley but ten minutes from the end the Boys’ scored their winner to take the points.

AF Mato are a further two points behind after a good looking 6-3 victory at home to Shillington Reserves. Salento won their first game of the season, beating a good Sir William Peel side 3-1.

Alfa Oakley and Blackbirds Flitwick shared eight goals and a point apiece in their mid table confrontation. Marco Catrambone opened the scoring for Alfa Oakley but by half-time Alfa were 4-1 down. In the second half Ben Walsh scored with a quality header and the arrears were reduced to one goal by a left footed curler. Dan Lupton scored the equaliser from 20 yards to snatch a point.

The Under 21s Division has a new leader. Brickhill Wanderers ‘A’ dropped their first points of the season after being beaten 4-0 by Hitchin Town, who are now top.

Shefford Saints didn’t play and are third while Barton Rovers top scored in their home game against Watling Youth and are now in fourth place.

Ryan Kett set Barton off by scoring the first goal, but Watling equalised with a penalty. Kett scored his second with the assistance of a fumble by the Watling keeper, and Kett had a hand in the third goal when his shot rebounded off the Watling keeper and Josh McLelland was on hand to bury the ball into the net. Sam Martin nodded in a goal at the far post to make it 4-1 at the break.

Watling came out and scored first in the second half, but McLelland made it 5-2 and a rare headed goal by Ross Griffin made it six. Charlie Colbourne had the honour of scoring the last goal to make the result 7-2. Midfielder Liam Spuls was adjudged man of the match by Barton Rovers.

This coming weekend there will be another full league programme.
