Lively Langford undone by the league leaders

Langford started brightly in the rain on the 3G surface, Ryan Nicholl finding Sean Monagle who played in Lee Pateman whose fierce shot was deflected for a corner.

Edgware played a counter attacking game relying on their forwards running onto long clearances from Darren Bonfield in their goal.

The visitors played the better football, but Edgware created the best chances, with Adam Ali creating problems by running at the defence, however, Adam Lawrence in the Langford goal made a number of save from Ali’s shots.

A five man Langford move ended with Vooght shooting wide, the Reds continued to play good passing football and put the home team under pressure.

Then against the run of play Bonfield again cleared long up field, to Ali who was bought down wide left 18 yards out. Ali took the kick, and Dennis Marjan timed his run across the Langford defence to perfection to head home for 1-0.

Langford continued to play a passing game but were unable to seriously threaten the home goal.

From the restart Edgware attacked and created and missed a number of chances, until in the 52nd minute Jack Ward ran at the defence and found himself through with only Lawrence to beat, he duly converted from close range.

Both teams played good passing football and although both created good chances neither could score, with Lawrence in the Langford goal making three great saves to keep his team in the match.

Langford’s next match is away to Woodford Town on Saturday, February 20.
