Biggleswade Town maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 draw at home to Redditch in the Southern League Premier on Saturday.

It was not the most spectacular of games, Redditch had done their home work and came content on stopping the Waders playing.

Redditch took the game to Waders and were a goal ahead with quarter of an hour hone. Luke Shearer made his way down the right flank and threaded a pass through to Jordan Archer to score from close range.

With the Waders not firing on all cylinders it was going to be tough to get back on level terms, Ian Brown turning a fierce shot from Jamie Ashmore round the post.

Biggleswade’s only attempts of note were from Lewis a shot from distance and a header from Burnett just over. At the break Allinson was itching to get at the team to lift the tempo.

At the start of the second half Hutton was replaced by Sam Merson. This added a new dimension to the game and the Waders started to play, shortening the game down and creating.

On the hour Merson saw the keeper off his line and chipped from 40 metres, to level up the scores. It was all green from here on in but Hoyte and Merson with headers could not break the resolve of the midlanders who came for a minimum of a point.

A series of substitutions could not bring extra pressure to the game, Merson sustaining a nasty cut under his eye and had to be replaced.

Waders travel to Dunstable on Tuesday, August 18.
