A slightly below par performance from Potton on a sticky pitch on Saturday saw them lose 1-0 to Stewarts & Lloyd who now move above them in the UCL Division One.
S&L defence dominated the match and stopped Potton really testing their keeper whereas Craig Lewis was forced to make several good saves.
Early S&L pressure saw them dominate the opening minutes with Danny Reid firing wide. Potton started to get back into the game and a header from Gary Ansell-Carter was easily saved by keeper Kris Bartle.
Then Jack Chandler worked his way down the left and his low centre eluded everyone. From a Joe Jordan centre Kenny Smith hit the side nmetting. Patrick Daniels forced a good save by Lewis and at the other end Bartle saved from Muggeridge and easily dealt with a weak shot by Gary Ansell-Carter.
From the edge of the penalty area Stuart Gillies shot wide. In the 24th minute Stuart Gillies lost the ball and S&L worked the ball to David Sheridan who steadied himself to shoot into the top corner of the goal giving Lewis no chance to save. A centre from Jordan was headed over by Smith.
In the closing minute of the half S&L were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and Lewis did well to save the kick from Mark Forbes.
Playing up the hill in the second half Potton came out more determined but it was Forbes who saw another free kick saved by Lewis at full length. Smith had a shot that went wide before Daniels headed wide from a corner. Soon afterwards Potton had a good shout for a penalty turned down by the referee when a defender climbed all over Smith’s back in the penalty area. Calum Forster mad a good run that resulted in Jordan shooting wide. Forster then played a ball into the penalty are to see Smith hook his shot wide. A good centre saw Reid narrowly head wide when challenged by Lewis.
Moises Rodriguez had a good run down the right and Reid shot for an empty goal but with the S & L bench expecting a goal Lewis dived back to save it on the line. In the closing minutes with S & L trying to keep possession of the ball James Mann saw his shot easily saved by Lewis.
It was in the final third of the pitch that Potton lacked penetration with the final pass and S & L defended well. On Saturday, November 28 Potton entertain Bourne Town and then on Tuesday, December 1 Raunds Town are the visitors.
