Preview: Bedfordshire County League

With Premier Division supported by Sportsform league leaders Caldecote sitting the afternoon out it gives their nearest challengers a chance to close the gap upon them at the head of the league standings, for Shefford Town & Campton that will be no easy task when they journey to Miller Road to face Bedford Hatters in perhaps the game of the day. However, Arlesey Town Reserves look to have an easier task when they hit the road for a Crawley Road meeting with Woburn.

Of the other title contenders, Oakley Sports will be firm favourites to collect the full three points when yet to win on the road Dunton visit them at their Playing Field headquarters, whilst over at Moggerhanger Playing Fields hosts Blunham entertain Wilshamstead.

Other action comes at Hillgrounds, where hosts AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College look to retain their season’s unbeaten home record against the visiting Renhold United who search out their first away point/points of the season and at Lodge Road, hosts Sharnbrook receive a visit from yet to win on the road this season Flitwick Town.

In Division One, all of the leading four clubs look odds on to collect another three points in their quest for top-flight football next season. For Lidlington United, its home action at Hurst Grove against Lea Sports PSG, where they look to maintain their season’s 100% record against a PSG side that are yet to win on the road this season. Whilst Ickwell & Old Warden journey still unbeaten on the road this season to Greenfield Road for a meeting with a home Westoning side that has lost all of its opening four home league games.

Meanwhile over at Cople Playing Fields, Bedford Sports Athletic will be hosts to the visiting Luton Boys and at Marston Playing Fields, Marston Shelton Rovers look to maintain their season’s unbeaten home ways when visited by a Kings AFC side that has lost its last two away outings.

Elsewhere at Bedford Road Recreation Ground, Sandy go into local derby action against Caldecote Reserves in search of their third home victory on the bounce against their local rivals who have not collected the full three points on the road in any game since the opening day of the season at Westoning.

Other action comes in Mowsbury Park, where FC Meppershall look to return to action following their recent league suspension against Meltis Albion and at Groveside, the venue for Henlow’s home encounter against AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserves.

Division Two action sees both of the leading title contenders enjoy home advantage, at The Warren, Elstow Abbey defend their season’s 100% home record when visited by Sundon Park Rangers.Whilst over at Stonefields, AFC Turvey defend their own season’s unbeaten home ways when called upon by Marabese Ceramics.

For those clubs in the chasing pack and far from out of the promotion race, it’s a trip on the road for Pavenham as they head for Solway Road North and a meeting with hosts Co-op Sports.Whilst Queens Park Crescents head to The Luton Regional Sports Centre to be entertained by Stopsley Park.

At the other end of the table, the bottom two clubs clash at Second Meadow where Clifton will be hosting Great Barford and points will not be easy for Shefford Town & Campton Reserves to gather when they host the visiting M & DH Oakley at Rectory Road.

The day’s other action in this division coming at The Hollow where Potton United Reserves receive a visit from Bromham United.

The Division Three promotion battle seems to be developing into a five-way battle but this weekend just two will hold home advantage. In Mowsbury Park, Goldington go in search of home win number five on the bounce against Kempston Hammers Sports.Whilst at Renhold Playing Fields, hosts Renhold Village defend their season’s 100% home record against a Royal Oak Kempston side that has won its last three away outings.

Of those on their travels, Stevington defend their season’s unbeaten away ways when they journey to Jubilee Playing Fields to be hosted by Wilshamstead Reserves and Cranfield United Reserves head for a Mill Lane meeting with Potton Town. The third promotion hopeful on the road being Eastcotts AFC, they make their way to Gold Street to be entertained by Riseley Sports.

Down at the other end of the table, basement side Flitwick Town Reserves will be in home Steppingley Road local derby action against Westoning Reserves just seven days after meeting them at Greenfield Road when the result went against them by a 5-2 scoreline. Whilst Dunton Reserves still without an away point this season head to Wrest Park to be taken on by Sundon Park Rangers.

The game of the day in Division Four comes in Mowsbury Park, with league leaders Bedford Park Rangers defending their season’s unbeaten home ways against second place Thurleigh.Whilst third place Marsh Leys will be expected to collect the full three points when they entertain Sandy Reserves at their Cutler Hammer base.

Of the other promotion hopefuls, Stewartby Village look to have a tricky home clash at Stewartby Way against the ever improving Wootton Village.Whilst on The Green, Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves host local rival Clifton Reserves in a game that could go either way.

Having slipped out of the promotion race in recent weeks Kempston Athletic will perhaps be the favourites to collect their first away win of the season when they travel to Horseshoes Close to face bottom of the table Dunton A.

Yet Dinamo Flitwick will find it no easy task collecting their first away win of the season when they head for a Mowsbury Park outing against Goldington Hammers.
