Sandy Ladies earned their first point of the season in a cracking end to end match that could have gone either way right up to the last kick in the 95th minute.

Yet again Sandy only had 12 players available mainly through long term injuries and illness and the girls who played displayed tremendous fighting spirit.

Sandy put the visitors under pressure from the kick off which resulted in a terrific goal from Kayleigh after just three minutes when she latched onto a poor attempt at a clearance on the edge of the box and drove the ball over the keeper into the top corner.

Sandy continued to press and had other attempts on goal but unfortunately didn’t convert them. Then on 22 minutes they conceded a free kick just outside the box and Stortford hammered the ball into the top corner, giving Amie in goal no chance.

Sandy stormed back and twice Chloe made brilliant runs down the left and put in terrific crosses that Katie managed to get on the end of but her efforts just slid by the post each time.

The match raged from end to end with Jade at the back leading the defence of Lucy, Claire and Karen who was replaced by Kirsty on 23 minutes, generally keeping the visitors away from Amie.

The match was still level at half time and picked up again in a similar manner with Bishops Stortford probably edging possession but Sandy looking the more dangerous with Amber, Katie, Faye & Chloe all going close.

Finally on 74 minutes Amber’s cleared shot, following Faye and Chloe’s brilliant work down the left, came out to Loren who rattled it back past the keeper to put Sandy back in front.

The lead only lasted five minutes with the visitors levelling on 79 minutes.

Player of the match for her huge effort in leading the back line was Jade.

Sandy are at home again on Sunday to Garston Ladies.
