Shillington’s unbeaten run is finally ended

With Shillington’s Greenfield Road pitch waterlogged the Premier Division supported by Sportsform leaders chose to concede home advantage and face second place AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College on their own 3G surface at Hillgrounds.

Alas for them it was an end to a 12 game unbeaten run as the Town ran out 2-1 winners to replace the Shills at the head of the table.

Elsewhere, Wilstead climbed up to third as they took their unbeaten away ways to five games with a 1-0 victory at Ickwell & Old Warden who lost their unbeaten home record after Paul Jones’15th minute strike.

In the only other two top flight games to beat the weather, there were away wins for Shefford Town & Campton and Renhold United.

Shefford enjoyed a 5-4 victory at Caldecote who were losing for the fourth consecutive time on home soil.

Tom Scurfield, Sam Lewis, Adam Larsen, Andrew Hayday and Michael Jones all netted for Town, against home replies from Danny McIver (2) plus Kai Griffiths-Shilton and Barry Dellar.

United won by the same 5-4 scoreline at Flitwick Town to end the home club’s four game unbeaten run.

Andy Smith and Jason Allison both netted twice alongside a Ben Brown penalty against Town replies via a Richie Bevan hat-trick and Daniel Stafford.

In Division One, the weather turned out to be the biggest winner as there was just action at Rectory Road where visitors Woburn Lions ended a run of eight games without a win with a 3-0 victory over Shefford Town & Campton Reserves.

In the Beds FA Intermediate Cup quarter-finals, Elstow Abbey’s name will go into the hat for the semi-final draw after they emerged 2-0 home winners over Bedford Sports Athletic thanks to strikes in the last five minutes from Ed L’Erario and Dom Parrella.

Alas it was the end of the road for Henlow beaten 1-0 at home by South Midlands League Crawley Green Reserves and for AFC Turvey defeated 2-0 at Luton District & South Beds League outfit Farley Boys.

Potton Town remain three points clear at the head of the Division Two table after netting a 7-2 home win over Kings AFC.

Chris Moore scored a hat-trick, while Tom Grinstead (2), Charlie Seward and Kevin Shill scored, with Kings netting through Chris Greene’s double.

For second place Clifton it was win number five on the bounce with a 3-1 home victory over bottom of the table Riseley Sports.

Dan Ellis, David Holbrook and Andy Harvey were on the scoresheet against the lone reply from Clive Colimore.

Down at the Hollow, Potton United Reserves enjoyed a 5-0 home win over AFC Harlington, Gary Ansell-Carter and Lee Adams both netting twice alongside a single strike from Salvatore Merola.

Just one game was to beat the weather in Division Three and for fourth place Westoning that meant an end to their seasons unbeaten away ways when defeated 3-1 at Bedford Panthers who now climb up into sixth place.

Division Four leaders FC Houghton retained their season’s unbeaten home ways with a 2-1 victory over Cranfield United Reserves to stay five points clear at the top.

Second place Meltis Albion Reserves were winning by the same scoreline at Moggerhanger United, Josh St Clair Pierre and Darren Bentley netting the vital goals against a Michael McDonnell strike.

However, the biggest winners of the day were Clapham Sports , 6-1 home winners over Dinamo Flitwick.

With Sandy Reserves’ Bedford Road Recreation Ground unplayable they conceded home advantage and made the trip to Harvey Close for their home game against Caldecote A where they were 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Chris Gregory. Ryan Gregory, Toren Purser and Carl Mercer.

For Bedford Park Rangers it was an end to their five game unbeaten run when they lost 2-1 at Mid Beds Tigers. George Melrose and Cameron Hall on target for the Tigers against a Rangers reply from Darren Ashpole.
