The non-availability of some of the squad did not help matters. Potton introduced new signing Luke Seaber-Shinn from Godmanchester Rovers who had a solid first match.

In the opening minutes a hard low centre from Calum Forster was just missed by Kenny Smith.

Forster then had a free kick mispunched by the keeper and it went for a corner. After a good move Gary Ansell-Carter saw his shot saved by keeper Alex Hill.

At the other end Dom Ivens worked his way through for Lutterworth and saw his shot go just wide of the post.

From a Seaber-Shinn free kick Chris Reeves headed onto the post with George Kiely netting the rebound only to be adjudged offside. Alex Rhodes produced a dangerous centre that eluded everyone and at the other end Smith headed into the side netting from a corner.

Seaber-Shinn saw his free kick go over the bar before Jack Sutherland shot wide and Rhodes had a good run that was eventually blocked by the Potton defence in a goalless first half.

In the second period Ansell-Carter worked himself into a good position and his left foot shot went over the bar. A good move involving John Bailey and Ansell-Carter ended with Forster’s shot going wide of the target.

Luke Harradine miskicked in defence and allowed Rhodes through and his shot went narrowly wide of the post. Bailey had a long range shot that was deflected for a corner.

In the 62nd minute Lutterworth took the lead when a through ball put Sam Young in the clear and his shot gave Craig Lewis no chance.

Lutterworth had an appeal for a penalty turned down before Young headed over from a corner.

In the 80th minute Steve Muggeridge gave the ball away in midfield and in attempting to block a centre was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area for which he was also shown a yellow card. Callum Harris made no mistake from the spot.

Potton tried to get back into the game and in the second minute of stoppage time a good passing movement ended with Daryl Wisbey scoring with a good shot from the edge of the penalty box.

Next Saturday Potton entertain Stewarts & Lloyds, Corby who are third in the league – so a difficult match to get back to winning ways.

Potton United: Craig Lewis, Daryl Wisbey, Luke Saeber-Shinn, Shaun Faulkner, Luke Harradine, Chris Reeves, Gary Ansell-Carter, Calum Forster, George Kiely (Stuart Gillies), Kenny Smith (Steve Muggeridge), John Bailey (Lee Swain).
