Two goals early in the second half saw runaway UCL Division One leaders Peterborough Sports maintain their 100% league record 2-0 against a spirited performance from Potton on Tuesday.

Play open at a cracking pace and Avelino Vierra, who proved to be a fast handful throughout the match, broke down the right and his centre was headed goalwards by Oliver Medwynter and Craig Lewis made a tremendous save to keep the ball out.

Play went immediately to the other end and Adam Marsh had a good run and saw his shot tipped over the bar by keeper Luke McShane. Sports were proving fast on the break. Karl Gibbs shot wide when well placed, Vierra hit the side netting and Craig Lewis saved at the feet of Dan Bullers. From an Ansell-Carter centre Adam Marsh saw his shot blocked.

In the closing minutes a centre from David Cobb eluded everyone and Marsh saw his shot go past the post.

Potton started the second half brightly with Chris Reeves seeing his shot blocked and Ansell-Carter firing the rebound over. But in the 49th minute the ball was played through to Cobb who saw his shot well saved by Lewis - and it rebounded to Cobb to head home.

Vierra passed to Jack Sansby who saw his shot blocked. From a Potton corner Joe Aris fired just over the bar. Lewis then saved from Ali Nyang. In the 61st minute a Sports corner taken from the right found Medwynter unmarked and he headed home from close range.

Potton were awarded a free kick and Joe Jordan saw his shot tipped over the bar by McShane. Calum Forster had his shot blocked but the ball fell to Kenny Smith and he failed to connect from close range.

Vierra played the ball to Dan Clements but he put his effort over the bar. A poor clearance by the Potton defence allowed Clements another shot but this time wide of the goal. Lewis saved a shot from Vierra and with McShane well off his line Smith attempted a long shot that was wide of the goal.

Potton United: Craig Lewis, Marc Umney (Joe Jordan), Calum Forster, Shaun Faulkner, Luke Harradine, Chris Reeves, Gary Ansell-Carter (Lee Swain), Joe Aris, George Kiely, Kenny Smith, Adam Marsh (John Bailey).

Next Saturday Potton visit Langford in the Quarter Final of the Bedfordshire FA Senior Trophy. After that, at the moment, Potton have no midweek fixtures arranged until at least the beginning of March.
