Stotfold battle but are well beaten at Hertford

Stotfold came away from Hertford Town well beaten as they lost this SSML Premier Division fixture 4-0 on Saturday.

Hertford hit the post and had a clutch of other early chances to take the lead.

It wasn’t one-way traffic though – Stotfold’s Mark Ellis forced the home keeper into a save, Drew Cardines put a good chance just wide and Ben L’Honore missed an open goal.

They paid for these missed chances just before the half hour when Tyler Hatherly’s long cross caught the wind and ended up in the Stotfold net.

Moments later it was 2-0 as Louis Rose tapped home from a corner.

Hertford were now in control and within minutes of the restart they scored a killer third goal, Hatherly firing home his second of the game.

L’Honore had a shot well saved just past the hour as chances for both sides became rare. Ten minutes from time Rose headed home his second and Hertford’s fourth to secure the points.

Stotfold kept fighting to the end and forced a couple of late saves.

Stotfold host Harefield on Saturday and then visit Broxbourne Borough on Tuesday.
